MII TAOKIA

I am Mii Taokia, a filmmaker, musician, and multidisciplinary artist with a strong connection to my Cook Island ancestry. Despite being a self taught 3D artist and my relatively short experience of just over 2 years in the film and 3D industry, I have already embarked on various creative endeavors In 2021, I directed and produced the web series "Kreative Kokanuts," aiming to showcase the talent within the Cook Island community and shed light on overlooked stories.

Through this project, I captivated audiences worldwide and provided a platform for local artists to express themselves.

Venturing into animation, I created two shorts, "Ko Au" and "Ta'i," which explored the power of visual storytelling. "Ko Au" gained recognition at esteemed festivals, sharing narratives rooted in my personal experiences and cultural heritage. Additionally, I served as the head of animation for the award-winning documentary "Taonga: An Artist Activist," using art and activism to amplify its message and spark important conversations.

Beyond filmmaking, I am a passionate musician and DJ, blending genres and experimenting with sound. I also express my creativity through visual art forms like graphic design and graffiti. As a 3D generalist and educator, I bridge the gap between traditional and contemporary creativity, exploring technology and digital art. My holistic approach extends to practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, reminding me that creativity manifests in how we approach challenges in life.

Celebrating my Cook Island heritage, I strive to elevate underrepresented voices and utilize art as a medium for storytelling, cultural preservation, and social change.
